Industrial Training: Oral Presentation Guidelines

For the Oral Presentation, 15 minutes are allocated for every student to present their Industrial Training outcome at hospital and premise. The presentation must include these points;

Understanding on industry and organisational structure

Ability to state interesting cases that have been encountered during the Industrial Training

Able to express importance of Optometrist rules in the Ophthalmology Clinic

Explain the processes/ flows  of managing patient involved in that particular hospital

Ability to relate knowledge obtained from formal lectures to industrial training

How does the focimeter works in determining power of ophthalmic lenses? Please explain it in point form.

Terkini Lagi Sensasi

Ni adalah update terkini LI 2011. Alhamdulillah, akhirnya kita menerima surat maklumbalas dari Hospital Teluk Intan dan jawapan nya adalah positif. Ni mungkin, atas tindakan proaktif Hidayah yang pergi sendiri ke hospital berkenaan untuk menanyakan status permohonan tersebut.

Apa2 pun ucapan terima kasih ke atas pihak Hospital Teluk Intan kerana sudi menerima pelajar kita dan ucapan selamat ber LI dengan tenang di HTI untuk Hidayah.

Lagi 2 pelajar masih belum dapat dipastikan..pihak kita masih menunggu malum balas rasmi daripada pihak PPUM dan HUSM.

Latest Updates of LI

So far, only 3 hospitals do not reply our LI's application. There are

1. Hospital Taiping (Fadzilah)
2. Hospital Teluk Intan (Hidayah)
3. Hospital K. Terengganu. (Hafiza)

For Taiping, the optometrist informed us verbally that Fadzilah is allowed to do LI there. We hope that the hospital will send the acceptance letter to us as soon as possible. For Teluk Intan and Kuala Terengganu, we make an assumption that they do not accept our application. Thus, I've called and sent a letter to  Temerloh to accept another student who is Hidayah. Verbally they agreed to take extra 1 student.

For Sg Buloh, they do not accept our application for some reasons that I've explained to you before. Thus, I've tried PPUM and HUSM for Hafiza and Nani..I'm quite positive that HUSM will be accepting both of you to do LI there on the same date with Zana & Gee. Besides that, I'm still praying for PPUM to accept both of u. Any suggestion, please meet up or call me ASAP

For this year, the students must submit a Industrial Training Report and do a presentation about the training/ posting to Department after you have been successfully finished your training/ posting.

Before you go for the training/ posting, please prepare your "Report Duty Letter" (Surat Lapor Diri) that you must send/ show it to Bahagian Latihan of every Hospital/ Premise during the 1st day of the training/ posting. Download the template here . To download it, you must register as a member of the forum. For date of LI, if you are not confirmed yet, just leave it blank.

On this Friday, please see Sr Aishah to get your copy of acceptance letter together with two envelopes. In the envelopes, we enclosed an Assessment Form and a Supervisor's Guidelines for your respective supervisor. Please pass it to them at 1st day of posting. This approach is more effective in ensuring that all the forms go to the respective supervisor.

For further info/ queries/ signature, please meet up me on Friday.

Clinic LogBook and Clinic Report Submission

Attention to All IIUM Optometry Students,

Kindly, please submit your all clinical logbooks and clinical reports for any clinics (OC, Jaya Gading, Ophthal Posting, Special Clinic) include two previous semester by this Monday to your respective Class Representative.  Please separate them by type of report (logbook or written report) Semester (Sem 1 & Sem 2), Batch, and Subjects (course).

After gathering all the logbooks and reports, please put in  'your basket' in front of Optometry Notice Board at IMC, Level 5. I'll collect them at 5.00 p.m on this Monday.

For those who have been submitted the logbooks and reports, please write "submitted" in comment section.

Prismatic Effect Calculation

Assalamualaikum and Very Afternoon to all readers,

For 2nd year students, do you still remember the rule how to determine Prismatic Effect (base up, down, in out) that I've been taught in class last week. InsyaAllah, I'll share it the rule using video post with all of the readers in next time.

How to calculate the prismatic effect amount induced by decentration??? The formula is very simple.

P (prism power)=c (decentration, in cm, not in mm) x F (focal power, D)

Simple, right...most of us have difficulty to determine which base will be induced by the decentration (c- in, out, up, down) and focal power (F- plus, minus)...by using my rule, InsyaAllah it will be easier to determine it. As I said before, the video is under construction but I've explain it in 2nd year class..Thus, in this post I would to give a tutorial to all 2nd year regarding this topic.
